Skools Out Playscheme

Skools Out Playscheme is a holiday activity scheme that has been operating for over 7 years. Originally piloted for just two weeks this scheme has grown from strength to strength through our quality driven development it now needs to be coordinated as a separate role.

It is held during all school holidays for disabled young people (including those with complex health needs) between the ages of 8-19 years at Ridegway school in Kempston.

Our schemes provide a wide range of high quality, safe yet fun everyday activities that young people can participate in meaningfully with friends. Examples of activities include:

  • Art/crafts activities
  • Bowling
  • Ice skating
  • Sensory play
  • Sporty fun and swimming
  • Music
  • Cookery
  • Visits from the Fire Brigade and Police
  • Visits to the farm/nature reserves

A typical session runs from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm, although longer and shorter sessions may be available. We generally divide groups up in accordance with the young peoples ages and needs in order to provide the most appropriate activities. Each day typically has a morning and an afternoon activity on offer. We aim to provide as varied a programme as possible.

Our staffing ratios where appropoiate are 1:1. All staff attend mandatory training, with some staff receiving more intensive training to deal with more complex needs. Parents and carers can take a break knowing that their child is safe.

Charges for activity days are heavily subsidised. There is also a 50% reduction for those on low incomes.

The club is run at Ridegway School in Kempston from 10am - 1.30pm. It generally operates on the third Saturday of every month. Parents are able to book up to 3 months in advance in order to secure a place.
